Tsangamwe Tabbed for Zimbabwe's Fed Cup Team

Lady Bulldog captain Charlene Tsangamwe will get a lifetime's experience in Armenia

April 16, 2008

The greatest thing that an athlete can be asked by his or her country is to be a representative of that country on an international stage. Lady Bulldog Charlene Tsangamwe has just been given such an honor. The 5'9 senior, who is just completing her first year of graduate studies for the MBA degree, will be traveling to Yerevan, Armenia to represent Zimbabwe in the Fed Cup tie.

"This is a wonderful thing for Charlene, for the tennis program, for the University, for Huntsville and the country of Zimbabwe", commented Lady Bulldogs coach Thomas Colvin. "Charlene will be an excellent ambassador for Zimbabwe and will represent them well both on and off the court."

This event marks the first time that Zimbabwe has competed in the annual Fed Cup since 1996.

The Federation Cup team is comprised of 3 players and 1 non-playing captain. Zimbabwe is competing in the Europe/Africa Zone Group III, which includes Armenia, Egypt, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Malta, Mauritius, Moldova, Montenegro, Norway, Morocco. The teams will be divided into two pools and play round-robins. The winners of each pool will be promoted to Europe/Africa Zone Group II in 2009.
