Women Start Round Robin Strong

Tsangamwe was the deciding point against JSU

March 28, 2008

Day one of the SWAC East Round Robin at Decatur's Point Mallard Park was dreary, but it was a good day for the ladies in maroon. The Lady Bulldogs of A&M avenged their only conference loss from a year ago by downing the Lady Tigers of Jackson State, 4-1. The ladies of A&M followed that up with a 7-0 win over Mississippi Valley State's Devilettes.

The 2 wins secures a spot in the SWAC Championships for the Lady Bulldogs.

"We played better today than we have in a few weeks, but we are still not clicking on all cylinders", commented coach Thomas Colvin.

The ladies of A&M were able to win the doubles point with strong play at #2 and #3 doubles. After that, the Lady Bulldogs got wins from Me'Shala Johnson at #2 singles, Lauren Cintron at #6, and Charlene Tsangamwe at #1, giving A&M the fourth and deciding point.

Against MVSU, the Lady Bulldogs were able to get points early and often in recording their second win of the day.

Next up for the Lady Bulldogs will be Alcorn State on Saturday at 11 a.m.
