Birmingham, Ala. - The Southwestern Athletic Conference announced its 2008 SWAC Softball Preseason Honors:  Alabama A&M's Debra Borcherding and Re'Quincia Mack claimed top honors as Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.  Both the preseason honors and the predicted order of finish were voted on by the league's coaches and sports information contacts.

Borcherding - a 5-foot-6 senior from Ames , Iowa - has become one of the top pitchers in the conference over the past two seasons.  A two-time first-team all-conference selection, she registered 196 strikeouts over 145 innings pitches in 27 appearances last season.  She was also named All-Tournament as well as SWAC Pitcher of the Week in April of 2007.  She also saw time as an infielder, batting .239 with 20 hits, two doubles, a home run and ten runs batted in.
