One of the best football players to ever wear the maroon and white, Knute Walker is in his third season coaching at his alma mater. Walker was inducted in to the AAMU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005 after a stellar career at A&M and is charged with coaching the safeties and outside linebackers. Walker's Hall of Fame career at cornerback included being named Grid Forecasters' Top College Defensive Player of the Year in 1985. That same year, he earned Magic City Classic Most Valuable Player award after leading the Bulldogs to a 7-6 victory over the rival Alabama State Hornets. He recorded an SIAC-best nine interceptions in his senior season as well. Walker was a 1986 draft pick of the Orlando Renegades of the United States Football League (USFL). Unfortunately, the Renegades franchise folded just before the 1986 season. Walker's coaching resume includes being named Arena Football Coach of the Year for his work with the Tennessee Valley Vipers and their receiving corps in 2000. He also served as the director of athletics at Holy Family Regional School, and also volunteered with the Huntsville Invaders. Best known for his mild manner, Walker's intensity shows in his ability to get the most out of his position players. Under his guidance, the Bulldogs have one of the toughest safeties and outside linebacking units in the Southwestern Athletic Conference led by starter Antonio Nelson (pictured below). A native of Birmingham and Parker High School, Walker is a proud father of two daughters, Clarissa Yvonne McKinney and endal Alicia Walker. In addition to his coaching duties, Walker serves as the assistant director of intramurals at Alabama A&M and is extremely active in student affairs. |
